Blood Coagulation
The coagulation cascade starts with the release of the platelet factors (thromboplastins) and other substances from the damaged cells.

Thromboplastins activate the conversion of prothrombin into thrombin. Thrombin is the enzyme that converts soluble fibrinogen into insoluble fibrin.
